Commander (ENTJ) - VIRGO

Who is a Commander (ENTJ)?

Commanders are individuals with the Extraverted, Intuitive, Thinking and Judging personality traits. They tend to be charismatic, direct, and analytical people who prefer to focus on the bigger picture. Being natural born leaders, commanders are often perceived as assertive and uninhibited people who won't hesitate expressing their opinion.

Commander/Virgo need to feel like they’re being useful. They feel productive by contributing to something larger than themselves. This is how they derive self-worth. In order to feel like they have value, they need to feel needed. They are sharp thinkers and remarkable problem solvers. They tend to have great ideas and are able to examine the situation from every angle and strategically map out a plan in order to achieve their vision. Rather than being overwhelmed by problems, they are energized by them. These qualities combine with their strong conceptual skills to ensure that every project moves forward with smart, long-term solutions. They might hold others to their same impossible standards, believing everyone can and should work as hard as they do. They respect strategic thinking, quick wits and decisive action, and look down on those who don’t match up, which sometimes translates to arrogance, especially in the eyes of those who have not put in as much effort and don’t have the same courage.

More enlightened Commander/Virgos recognize that if ever there was an area where they could learn from others and improve themselves, it is in the realm of emotional sensitivity – to dismiss any aspect of personal growth borders on hypocrisy. Friendships with people from the Diplomat type group can be especially rewarding for Commanders, as the shared Intuitive trait fosters an instantaneous connection that can bridge the chasm between their uninhibited logic and the recognition that cooperation and conciliation can often accomplish more than that logic ever could alone. They are quick to see inefficiency and conceptualize new solutions, and enjoy developing long-range plans to accomplish their vision. They excel at logical reasoning and are usually articulate and quick-witted. They’re are analytical and objective, and like bringing order to the world around them. When there are flaws in a system, they see them, and enjoy the process of discovering and implementing a better way.

It takes Commander/Virgos a while to fall in love. They generally don’t like to submit themselves to large sways of passion. They like to have control over their reality, and the emotional intensity mirrors the feeling of chaos. They tend to be more pessimistic about love than others. They’re cynical about romanticism. They know that love is a fickle, fragile, ephemeral thing. They suspect that love might not be real at all. But when they finally feel love, it’s not just love—it’s like a homecoming. It’s like they’ve finally found a place where they belong. It’s like they found a way to love themselves. These people have high expectations for themselves and for their partners, and want a mate who will put in the time and effort necessary to create a successful life together. They prefer to have their homes and lives structured and organized, and may be domineering in imposing this structure on others. They tend to have a clear idea of how things should be done, and may feel that others should follow.

Their quest of self-improvement extends to their bodies, their clothing, and their appearance. This combined with their discerning eye, means that they can be incredibly concerned about what kind of impression they give to others. When Commander/Virgo’s criticism is left uncontrolled, this can backfire on themselves as well as others. They can become hyper critical, and their perfectionistic nature can make them excessively negative towards everything, including themselves. The image of themselves that they seek to reach can be impossible, and when they inevitably fail to reach it, they can be incredibly hard on themselves.
